His Excellency President Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has officially commissioned The Sprout Restaurant at the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility in Harare, describing the development as a clear example of innovation, environmental sustainability and economic transformation.
Addressing guests during a restaurant lunch visit on Wednesday, President Mnangagwa said the rapid transformation of the Pomona site aligns with Zimbabwe’s infrastructure modernisation thrust and broader national development agenda.
“The efforts you are making to transform this site through ground-breaking innovations and economic activities are applauded. The successful construction of this restaurant speaks volumes about Geo-Pomona as a trailblazing company,” said the President.
He also challenged players in the tourism and hospitality sectors to deliberately source inputs from local farmers, while urging stakeholders to maintain modern urban standards including efficient traffic management and proper public transport infrastructure.

Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the project reflects a bold vision to turn an environmental challenge into a national asset.
“Not long ago, this very site was an eyesore — an open dump that was environmentally unsafe, unproductive and unliveable. Today, that same land has been transformed into a clean, secure and world-class environment that supports livelihoods and restores dignity to surrounding communities,” said Dr Nguwaya.
He said The Sprout forms part of a broader sustainable development model that combines responsible waste management, job creation and community infrastructure.
“This restaurant is part of a wider vision of environmental renewal and sustainable development. It demonstrates how challenges can be turned into opportunities through innovation, investment and strong public-private collaboration,” said Dr Nguwaya.

President Mnangagwa later officially declared the restaurant open, noting that the facility adds momentum to Zimbabwe’s growing tourism and hospitality industry while showcasing the country’s capacity for transformative development.
