The volume of solid waste delivered to the Geo Pomona Waste Management site in Pomona has increased in recent weeks due to the Chenesa Harare blitz as the government works together with the private sector to maintain a clean environment in Harare.
Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Mr Dilesh Nguwaya said: “We have seen an increase in the tonnage of waste coming to the site ever since the blitz started. In the first seven days of the blitz, we recorded a total tonnage of 3,937 tonnes from 290 trips. The highest tonnage of 791 tonnes was recorded on the 11th of January.”
Mr Nguwaya said Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited was working hand-in-hand with the Local Government and Public Works Ministry through the National Civil Protection Command Centre in monitoring and recording the number of truckloads and tonnage delivered to the site by each truck.
The waste is being collected from Mbare, Dzivarasekwa, Highveld, and the central business district (CBD).

Mr Nguwaya paid tribute to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for creating a conducive environment for thriving private businesses.
“We are very grateful to His Excellency President Cde ED Mnangagwa that under the Second Republic, he is fostering and creating an enabling environment to conduct business in the country and supporting businesses that are providing sustainable solutions to keep the city of Harare clean,” he said.
Mr Nguwaya said the main thrust of the project was to incinerate 1000 tonnes of waste daily to produce 16 Megawatts to 22 Megawatts of electricity.
“This blitz, therefore, has led to the increase of waste being received on the site and we will ensure our vision to incinerate solid waste into electricity comes to pass. We will continue to monitor statistics of the waste coming through,” he said.
