Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Limited scooped the ESG Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Sustainability Innovation Champion Award for its sterling role in implementing a ground-breaking innovative waste-to-energy project that will generate 22MW while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

The award was received by the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) and Executive Chairman Dilesh Nguwaya at a recent ceremony, which was held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

Geo Pomona are torch-bearers in long-term and sustainable environmental solutions, having transformed the once smelly Pomona dumpsite into a world-class facility, where electricity will be generated.

The company will also establish world-class sporting and recreational facilities as the firm modernise the area that was once occupied by scavengers.

Speaking after winning the award, Nguwaya said his company won the award because it was doing innovative waste management in Zimbabwe – the first of its kind in Southern Africa.

“This waste management is the first of its kind in the Southern African region; we are the first to do this in terms of managing waste and electricity generation,” he said.
