A Geo Pomona Waste Management delegation is in Austria for a high-level study tour focused on waste-to-energy technologies, as Zimbabwe advances efforts to transform waste into a sustainable source of electricity.
The delegation includes Geo Pomona Waste Management Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, the President of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), technical experts and other key stakeholders in the waste management sector.
The programme is providing participants with first-hand exposure to cutting-edge waste-to-energy systems, including incineration technologies, energy recovery processes, emissions mitigation measures, residue treatment and environmental impact management.
The study tour offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading industry experts and observe best practices in sustainable waste management and circular economy solutions that have been successfully implemented in Europe.
Geo Pomona is leading Zimbabwe’s flagship waste-to-energy project at the Pomona site in Harare, a facility expected to convert municipal solid waste into electricity while significantly reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill.
The Austria visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technical expertise, build strategic partnerships and enhance capacity ahead of the project’s full-scale implementation.
Insights gained during the tour are expected to contribute to the development of more efficient waste management systems and support Zimbabwe’s transition towards cleaner, greener and more sustainable energy solutions.
