Geo Pomona Waste Management (Private) Limited had the honour of hosting the Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Honourable Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, at our transformative waste management facility in Harare. The visit highlighted not only opportunities for collaboration, but also the remarkable journey of turning a once-neglected dumpsite into a leading model of environmental sustainability and innovation.

Accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Honourable Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, the Vice President was hosted by our CEO and Executive Chairman, Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya, along with senior officials. The engagement provided a platform to showcase our integrated waste management systems and their contribution to cleaner communities, resource efficiency, and sustainable urban development.

What was once an abandoned and environmentally hazardous site has been transformed into a hub of innovation, demonstrating the power of vision and commitment in addressing waste challenges. Today, the Geo Pomona facility stands as a beacon of environmental stewardship, attracting growing interest from regional and international visitors.

The Vice President described the facility as “breathtaking,” commending its scale, impact, and forward-thinking approach. He noted its role in job creation and its potential to inspire similar initiatives across Africa, reinforcing the principle that African solutions for African challenges are both viable and impactful.

The visit follows an earlier tour in April by the President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Boko, further underscoring regional confidence in Zimbabwe’s approach to sustainable waste management.

Honourable Mnangagwa also highlighted the importance of the project’s National Project Status, noting its significant environmental, social, and economic contributions to the country.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya, emphasised Geo Pomona’s readiness to extend its impact beyond Zimbabwe. He noted that the company is keen to replicate its model across the region, stating: “We are open to regional collaborations as we build one Africa where our context-based problems are better solved by us.”

Discussions during the visit focused on collaboration between Zimbabwe and Botswana, particularly in sharing knowledge and scaling sustainable waste management solutions across the region.

At Geo Pomona, we remain committed to driving environmental sustainability through innovation, transforming waste into opportunity, and building a cleaner, sustainable future for our communities and the region at large.
