Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Mr Dilesh Nguwaya has said the waste-to-energy plant project will be complete by 2026 as everything was in place to finish the works on time.

Our waste-to-energy plant will generate up to 22 megawatts (MW) of electricity from methane generated from rotting waste, and the power will be fed into the national grid.

Mr Nguwaya told journalists during a media tour of our site on Thursday that: “We are on schedule, remember we took over the waste management in 2022. We finished the construction of sports fields, and now we are busy with the sorting plant where waste will be separated. We have also managed to construct the waste treatment plant.

“Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd offers long-term and sustainable environmental solutions through the innovative technology of waste-to-energy plants. The project focuses on a well-organised direction for health, safety, and the environment, considering the best international experiences in this field that will be applied by international experts employed.

“So far, we are right on track and believe that we will be able to finish all the projects that we are going to be carrying out by 2026.”

Mr Nguwaya went on: “We want to show the world that we are not here to play, we are working in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1). We are working flat out to ensure that by the end of 2026”

The sorting plant is under construction where the waste will be separated this is where recyclable materials will be extracted and given to recycling companies. All the compactable waste will go to the waste-to-energy plant and the other waste will go to the landfills.

There will be three landfills – ashes, municipal solid waste, and hazardous waste.

Mr Nguwaya said there was a 208% increase in staff numbers as it has jumped from 61 in January 2023 to 188 in September 2023.

Our CEO and Executive Chairman also spoke of the operations at the site in Pomona.

He said: “Details of types of waste, where the waste is coming from, the weight of the waste, company disposing of waste, name of driver, truck registration details, and time are recorded.”

Apart from the main civil works, we have also built state-of-the-art sports facilities such as a soccer pitch, basketball and tennis courts.
