In recent weeks, we have been busy clearing illegal dumpsite in Harare as we move to ensure clean environments in the capital city.
We started with Region 1 which covers Waterfalls, Region 2 in Kuwadzana while Region 3 falls under Budiriro where we are cleaning up illegal dumpsites.
The clean-up is also happening in Region 4 in Dzivarasekwa and Tafara suburb under Region 5.
The exercise started on 17 March and ends on Sunday 23 March, 2024.
We started clearing illegal dumpsites across Harare last month. For February, our target was 21830, but we have collected 32841 as of 27 February, 2025, having started the clean up on 10 February.
Our phased approach prioritises the removal of illegal dumpsites, after which we will implement a structured and efficient waste collection system.
We continue to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative and to drive long-term improvements in waste management across Harare.
Meanwhile, the City of Harare will continue with door-to-door waste collection until all key logistics are concluded.
To accelerate the process while waiting for the delivery of Geo Pomona Waste collection fleet, we have partnered Bitumen World to enable us to begin addressing the growing challenge of illegal dumpsites immediately.
This will ensure a visible impact in restoring cleanliness and order in Harare.
