Geo Pomona Waste Management has created more than 1,190 jobs as it expands operations at its flagship waste management and waste-to-energy project in Harare.
The jobs cut across engineering, accounting, environmental management, administration, logistics, plant operations and heavy vehicle driving, with many young Zimbabweans joining the company’s growing workforce.
Geo Pomona has positioned itself as a major player in Zimbabwe’s waste management sector, leading large-scale investment in modern waste infrastructure and environmental management systems.
At the centre of the project is a planned waste-to-energy plant expected to generate between 16 and 22 megawatts of electricity for the national grid once fully operational.
The facility is designed to process up to 1,000 tonnes of waste per day, converting municipal waste into electricity while reducing reliance on traditional landfill dumping methods.
The company says the project is aimed at modernising Zimbabwe’s waste management system through cleaner and more sustainable technologies.
Major infrastructure developments have already been completed at the Pomona site, including waste sorting facilities, internal road networks, water treatment systems and specialised landfill sections.
The project is increasingly being viewed as one of Zimbabwe’s biggest environmental infrastructure investments, with potential to become a regional model for sustainable waste management and renewable energy generation.
