Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, is in Germany for the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) Working Group on Energy Recovery, where global experts are meeting to discuss modern waste-to-energy solutions and sustainable waste management systems.
On the second day of the programme, Dr Nguwaya toured the Centre for Resources and Energy in Hamburg, including a state-of-the-art Waste-to-Energy plant currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in 2027. The facility is designed to convert municipal waste into electricity while reducing landfill dependency and improving environmental efficiency.

The visit is of direct relevance to Zimbabwe, as it aligns with Geo Pomona’s flagship Waste-to-Energy project in Harare, which is expected to generate between 16 and 22 megawatts of electricity for the national grid once fully operational.

ISWA’s Energy Recovery Working Group brings together policymakers, engineers and industry leaders to exchange expertise on emissions control, efficient energy recovery technologies and circular economy models.

Dr Nguwaya’s participation is expected to strengthen Geo Pomona’s technical knowledge and international partnerships as Zimbabwe advances efforts to modernise waste management and expand renewable energy generation.
