Celebrated annually on March 6, Ghana’s Independence Day marks the historic moment in 1957 when the West African nation gained independence from British colonial rule, becoming the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to attain independence.

This year’s commemorations marked 69 years of Ghana’s freedom, bringing together members of the Ghanaian diaspora, Zimbabweans and other guests for a day filled with cultural performances, music and reflections on the enduring spirit of African unity.

Dr Nguwaya joined the gathering as part of the celebrations honouring Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and the country’s historic role in Africa’s liberation movement.

The event showcased traditional music, dance and cuisine, highlighting the vibrancy of Ghanaian culture while strengthening ties among African communities in Zimbabwe.

The celebrations also served as a reminder of the longstanding friendship between Zimbabwe and Ghana, two nations connected by shared historical experiences and a common vision for Africa’s development and cooperation.

Held at Heritage Village, the event provided a platform for cultural exchange and interaction among members of the Ghanaian community and their Zimbabwean counterparts, reinforcing the spirit of Pan-African solidarity and partnership.
