His Excellency President Dr E.D Mnangagwa, has commissioned the second batch of our refuse collection equipment at our site in Pomona, Harare.

The assortment of the new waste management vehicles now brings the purpose-made-trucks to over 100.

President Mnangagwa commended the collaboration between Government, the City of Harare, and Geo Pomona in delivering a tailored waste management strategy for the capital.

He said: “This initiative will transform and reposition Harare as a world-class city with an efficient and reliable waste management system, in line with the expansion and growth being witnessed under the Second Republic. Environmental conservation and city beautification are essential to national wellbeing and remain a shared responsibility.”

The President said the project was one of many vindicating the philosophy, “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo”.

“I further announced the introduction of awards for local authorities that consistently observe National Clean-Up Fridays and actively participate in conservation programmes.”

Geo Pomona Waste Management said: “This significant milestone marks a major boost to our city’s waste management efforts, ensuring cleaner and healthier communities for all Zimbabweans.

“We thank the President for his unwavering commitment to improving our nation’s infrastructure and services. Let’s keep our city clean, green, and prosperous!”

Since the establishment of the our, waste collection has risen from 50 percent to over 60 percent and is continuing to rise.

The Pomona site, previously known as the dumb site, is now clean owing to the modern waste management technology we use. The are also plans to build a restaurant on site as a sign that waste management has been successful and the environment is now conducive, healthy and safe.
