Our consistent waste collection efforts in the central business district and residential areas have been lauded as positive progress in cleaning up the capital, Harare Acting Town Clerk Phakamile Mabhena has said.

Mabhena, speaking after leading a delegation from the City of Harare of our site, Mabhena said the company’s operations had brought improvements to the waste management.

“We have toured all the units — the encapsulation, which has reduced the nuisance that characterised the previous dumpsite.

“We also saw the sorting plant and the hazardous waste section, and now we are looking forward to the waste-to-energy component of the project,” he said.

Mabhena said waste collection remains an ongoing process but expressed optimism that service delivery will continue to improve as Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd deploys more equipment.

“Waste collection is an ongoing thing. I understand there is delivery of the first batch of compactors and tippers, and we hope that as more equipment comes in, collection will improve further.”

Mabhena added that encapsulation at the site had significantly reduced odours, flies and fires that previously plagued the Pomona dumpsite, marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to restore environmental cleanliness and efficiency.
