Our initiative to clear illegal dumpsites in Harare has gone a gear up with a total of 76 830 tonnes of waste having been removed in the last three months.

This was done in 6 380 loads, according to official statistics.

The clearing of illegal dumpsites is happening at a time the company is preparing for a city-wide door-to-door refuse collection service.

Illegal dumpsites have already been cleared in several suburbs, such as Warren Park, Kambuzuma, Highfield, Mbare and Kuwadzana, among others.

Our Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said : “We are currently in a transitional period, finalising key logistics with the City of Harare.

“The City of Harare will continue with door-to-door waste collection for now until all key logistics are finalised.”

To expedite the next phase of the project, we are working closely with partners and equipment suppliers to ensure a smooth launch of door-to-door services.

Dr Nguwaya emphasised that the phased strategy is designed to first address the urgent issue of illegal dumping, followed by the implementation of a more organised waste management system.

Dr Nguwaya added: “Our phased approach prioritises the removal of illegal dumpsites, after which we will implement a structured and efficient waste collection system. We continue to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative and to drive long-term improvements in waste management across Harare.”
