A delegation comprising Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Engineer Amos Marawa and Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Office Dr Dilesh Nguwaya this Monday met two Botswana Ministers to explore ways of cooperation in waste management.
The delegation paid a courtesy call on Botswana Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr Lemogang Kwape and Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gaba Gabriella Mogapi as they kickstarted their benchmarking tour to the Southern African nation.
The team is seeking to collaborate on modern waste management.
Minister Kwape said the visit symbolizes the importance of the two African countries to work together to find solutions that help drive economic and growth and also enhance regional cooperation.
Engineer Marwa spoke about the need to bring on board the private sector saying Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited was private company working with the Government, City of Harare to improve waste management.
He said there was a great opportunity to collaborate to transform dumpsites in Botswana and make them waste management sites.
The team also visited the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development where presentations were made on the situation of waste management in Botswana and establish possible areas of cooperation.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gaba Gabriella Mogapi said they could learn a lot from Geo Pomona Waste Management.
She said there were 31 local authorities who fall under her Ministry, which is responsible for litter collection and management of various landfills and dumpsites around the country.
Mogapi said her office was responsible for ensuring a safe environment for the Batswana and the animals.
This visit comes after our delegation visited Madagascar last month to explore ways of cooperation in waste management.
