We are implementing a massive waste management and waste to energy project which will position us as Southern Africa’s first best and most efficient such project, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, has said.
Speaking during a tour of the SADC Heads of State tour of the site on Sunday, Dr Nguwaya said the magnitude of attention given to us through the tour was quite exciting and humbling.
“Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited is proud to be associated with the 44thHeads of State SADC Summit running under the theme, ‘Promoting Innovation to unlock opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an Industrialised SADC’.”
“We appreciate this opportunity given to us by SADC to showcase our innovative ecological model and industrialised prowess. Great men and women of our region, distinguished custodians of the SADC Summit, I welcome you to Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited, the home of sustainable waste management,” said Dr Nguwaya.
He narrated that following growing concerns over the neglect of the former Pomona Dumpsite, we initiated a rapid response which has made our site an example of environmental preservation.
Dr Nguwaya explained that our zero-waste landfill policy continues undeterred, and the generated waste will be recycled and utilised for energy recovery.
He also gave an update of the project thusfar, saying “we have constructed a sorting plant to separate recyclable from non-recyclables. The recyclable waste will be sold to recycling companies while recyclables non-combustion materials will be incinerated in the waste to energy plant to generate 16-22 Megawatts of electricity”.
Dr Nguwaya said the company have created increased job opportunities and also contribute towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in support of the broader industrialisation drive.
“Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited is a legacy footprint of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, of transforming the country into an Upper Middle Class Economy by 2030,” he said.
Dr Nguwaya also took the opportunity to congratulate Cde Dr Mnangagwa for assuming the SADC Chairmanship.
