Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, the Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, has said our vision is to be Southern Africa’s best and efficient waste management and power generation project.
Dr Nguwaya said, “we want to set the standard for public-private partnership (PPP) in the provision of sustainable and better livelihoods for our people.
“Our mission is to operate a world-class internationally rated waste management and power generation enterprise.”
He said Geo Pomona will collaborate and partner with diverse stakeholders to ensure sustainable and long-term benefits for communities and generations to come.
We took over the once-smelly dumpsite in April 2022 from City of Harare, and have transformed the facility into a magnificent entity.
From the once neglected site, we have put up new roads, electrical lines and an advanced security systems to keep the site safe from unathorised entry. The site is open 24 hours, hence there was need for an efficient lighting system.
We have also installed a weighbridge to capture how much waste we are receiving.
There are recreational facilities – the FIFA-certified soccer pitch, basketball and tennis courts, which are open to the public.
Recently, Caps United B team played against FC Porto Academy to mark the official opening of our pitch to the community.
Works are also underway in implementing the first-ever waste-to-energy plant to generate between 16-22 megawatts (MW).
The first waste hazardous landfill has been built to ensure proper disposal of harmful waste while the sorting plant is under construction. The water treatment system is now in place while water pools are being built.
Our plant is an epitome of harnessing new technologies to transform societies and generate the much-needed electricity.
