One of the key components of our waste management project at the Pomona site, the sorting plant is at an advanced stage of construction as the massive and modern plant comes to fruition.
Our waste management plant is a unique project, the first in southern Africa, and it has turned an eyesore into a beauty, and now the sorting plant is taking shape.
But you may also want to understand more about how this plant works.
And here is how it will work; Mixed waste will arrive from collectors and get into the sorting plant where it is segregated;
Remove all recyclable materials such as plastics (LDPE, HDPE, PP), bottles, cans, metals, etc.
Recyclable materials will be sold to recycling companies to be transformed into new products.
Non-recyclable combustible waste will be diverted to the waste-to-energy plant, which is incinerated to generate electricity. We already have a licence to produce 22 megawatts, which will be fed into the national grid, making our project a game-changer in renewable energy generation.
It is worth noting that the leftover organic waste and unusable materials will be diverted to the Municipal Waste Landfill.
This sorting plant is at the core of our waste management system.
Our work at the site is progressing well and has greatly impressed several authorities who have toured the project.
This has become a good example of successful projects implemented by the private sector to improve environmental management and clean energy generation in Zimbabwe.
