His Excellency the President Dr Cde E.D Mnangagwa has been impressed by our tremendous work and innovation to generate electricity from waste.
President Mnangagwa said this during his tour of our stand at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) on Friday.
The President and his Kenyan counterpart Dr William Ruto visited our stand.
He said: “I am impressed to learn that you are utilising waste to produce electricity. That is brilliant! Keep up the good work.”
The President said our innovative work fits well into his vision to transform Zimbabwe into an Upper Middle-Class Economy by 2030.
“This is the kind of innovation we need to build our country. Fresh ideas with promise. I want you to promise me that Zimbabwe will not experience electricity shortages again,” said President Mnangagwa.
We were granted a licence by the Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Authority (ZERA) to generate 22 Megawatts (MW) at our waste-to-energy plant in Pomona. This will be the first in Southern Africa.
In response, Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Mr Dilesh Nguwaya said: “We have hired specialists in all aspects of electricity generation; we ensured that we have the right people for the task.
“As Geo Pomona, we are honoured to have earned the trust of the relevant authorities and the government to contribute to building our country, Zimbabwe.”
The electricity generated from our site will be fed into the national grid to help improve power supply using the latest technologies.
President Mnangagwa, last year, officiated at our ground-breaking ceremony and was impressed by the great transformation at the site.
Various civil works are currently underway at the site to ensure that the project is implemented on time.
