The soccer field built by Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been certified by FIFA as appropriate to host matches, a development that has brought cheer to the community.
Cemil Nadir Sahin from Kent Spor Ltd of Kiwa ISA Sport B.V, – an accredited laboratory test institute of FIFA – inspected and certified that the soccer field meets international standards.
Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Mr. Dilesh Nguwaya said the FIFA certification was a success worthy of celebrating.
“Ladies and gentlemen. I heartily welcome you to this momentous milestone celebration. This is part of Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. As an inaugural initiative in 2024, we have constructed a state-of-the-art recreational facility consisting of a soccer field, two basketball courts, and two tennis courts,” he said.
Mr Nguwaya said plans were underway to construct a restaurant that would offer world-class culinary services.
This is part of promoting public health and wellness, he added, at a time when bad eating habits are on the rise, leading to chronic illnesses in communities.
“These facilities will be open to the public and this will help mainstream sport to the Pomona community and the rest of Harare. We anticipate that this sporting arm of the recreational facility will serve as a talent incubation center for our youth, and will go a long way in supporting Zimbabwe’s Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Fight, as the youth will have a safe place to nurture their talent,” he said.
Mr Nguwaya said Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd, was committed to providing a high-quality, durable, and safe sporting environment.
“Therefore, I am hopeful that this is a first step in that direction and the dividends will be clear for all to see in the shortest of time,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Emily Jesaya commended Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd for turning the former inhabitable Pomona dump site into an amazing place.
“Who would have thought that we would be here to witness this state-of-the-art soccer field being certified fit and meeting international standards, from what used to be a dumpsite? I see two basketball courts and two tennis courts right here next to the soccer field. All I can say is “Well done”. As the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture you have our full support,” she said.
Kiwa ISA Sport B.V. performed the inspection and certification of the soccer field under quality systems ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17025.
Kiwa ISA Sport B.V is leading in testing sports facilities and has an independent and professional centre of expertise in testing sports facilities and always striving for high quality, durable and safe sports accommodations.
Minister Jesaya said the vision for Zimbabwe, under the Second Republic, is to become a prosperous and empowered Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030.
“I am happy to say that Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd, is among the companies that are working and thriving towards achieving this vision. For the country to be a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle Income Society, we all need to pull together and ensure we follow through all the SDGs that were set out,” she said.
