The Government is exploring the establishment of a vocational training centre at our waste-to-energy plant in Harare as part of national efforts to build the technical skills required for Zimbabwe\u2019s growing green economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a tour of our waste management facility on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary for Skills Audit and Development, Ambassador Rudo Chitiga, underscored the critical role of modern waste management in advancing sustainable development and mitigating climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWaste management is an important aspect of sustainable development and dealing with climate effects, as well as the green economy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ambassador Chitiga indicated that her ministry is assessing the skills ecosystem linked to our operations to ensure that cities and towns across Zimbabwe are equipped with a competent and adequately trained workforce. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This includes reviewing training institutions currently offering relevant qualifications to determine whether they are meeting national demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“What we are going to do is look at which schools in Zimbabwe are producing the skills needed here and whether they can cover the whole country. If they are not enough, where can we train them?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She emphasised the importance of practical, hands-on learning, proposing the creation of a centre of excellence at our facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt would be good to have a centre of excellence here so learners get practical training \u2014 not theoretical training from someone who has never seen a dumpsite \u2014 but real exposure to state-of-the-art machinery and transferable skills,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our Executive Chairman and CEO, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, reaffirmed the company\u2019s readiness to partner with Government in driving skills development and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn terms of working with the ministry, we have young people sitting at home doing nothing. They need to come here, learn, and gain new skills that can transform their lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen technical capacity within local authorities nationwide, positioning Zimbabwe to effectively operate modern waste management systems and accelerate its transition to a sustainable, green economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
