We have commenced the distribution of skip bins in high-traffic areas in the capital in places such as bus termini, markets and other densely-populated public spaces, as we implement a structured waste collection service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our teams have been busy in the past weeks with efficient waste collection in Harare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We started with clearing of illegal dumpsites in high density suburbs, and now we are doing door-to-door waste collection across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The skip bin programme will be implemented in other key areas in Harare over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the company was committed in implementing sustainable waste management solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Nguwaya said: \u201cThis initiative is a direct response to the visible need for structured waste collection in high-traffic areas. We are not just placing bins, we are building a culture of environmental responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the skip bins were aimed at reducing illegal dumping in Harare, especially in the Central Business District (CBD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThrough this rollout, we aim to reduce illegal dumping, improve hygiene, and help the City of Harare regain its clean image,\u201d said Dr Nguwaya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur goal is to support Zimbabwe\u2019s Vision 2030 by aligning our actions with the NDS1 pillar on environmental protection and waste recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commuters and vendors operating near the Charge Office Bus Terminus praised us for the skip bins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blessing Chikowore, a commuter omnibus driver at the bus terminus said the availing of the skip bins was a welcome development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCustomers used to complain about the smell. With this new system, business will be better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tendai Zinyama, a vendor and long-time resident of Mbare said Harare would be a clean city soon if the rolling out of such initiatives was continued<\/p>\n\n\n\n
